bright

We often think of the four walls and maybe the trim when we first consider painting a room. Today we will take a look at how some designers bring color into a space via the ceiling. Painting a ceiling is a great way to draw eyes up and around a space or to lower a too-tall ceiling. Strong or subtle, painted ceilings can really complete a room.

Go Bold

There are several ways to make a bold statement on the ceiling: subtle walls with all of the bright color concentrated above, painted on stripes or pattern, a bold wall color carried onto the ceiling…

Keep it Subtle

Lighter colors on walls and ceilings still deliver an extra layer of interest without making a huge statement. We love the technique of wrapping the ceiling color down the walls slightly with the addition of some molding. This trick adds instant architecture to an otherwise plain space.

The subtle blue on this kitchen ceiling, which is pulled from the wall color in the adjacent room,  is a perfect balance for the printed wallcovering:

Metallic paints or glossy, lacquered finishes on ceilings add a pretty, reflective surface…

This space […]

Get The Look: Nursery Edition

Nursery Collage

We’ve noticed that nursery design is trending towards a clean, simple aesthetic. Themed and juvenile rooms are being replaced with rooms that have thoughtful, sophisticated design elements. We see this trend clearly represented in this pared-down nursery space, designed by  Jessica Packard.

This room features a few of the trends we mentioned in our previous […]

Rooted in tradition, floral chintzes, whether hollyhocks, rhododendrons, […]
