Rendering: From Drawing to Finished Design

by Administrator on September 30, 2011

Renderings of design projects are always an important part of the design process. You may have an idea of what a space will look like, but visually drawing it up makes it easier to really feel how it will look. Renderings also help you to see what should be changed in the final design. You may think something works until you put it all together in the space and realize it may not. Renderings are always important and are a great way to show your design to your clients before it is finalized.

Check out the rendering for the Show House bedroom we designed over this past summer:

Moroccan Paradise

by Administrator on September 22, 2011

A two for one deal of both living and dining room are shown here in a recently completed design project. The two rooms differ from each other yet still work together in the house.

The dining room table is a custom designed piece by Porter Design Company. The chairs around the large table are from Hickory Chair. The furniture works beautifully with the existing architecture detail in the walls and coffered ceiling.

The living room is tied together with the vibrant pattern in the window treatments by Schumacher (pattern: Hot House Flowers in Spark). The sofas are by Oscar de la Renta for Century. The chairs are also by Century. The unique light fixtures are Curry and Co.

Shortage of Space Doesn’t Mean A Shortage of Design

by Administrator on August 8, 2011

Interior design is all about working with the space you are given and making a design work in that given space. Large spaces may seem like the better option, but you don’t always need a lot of space to make an interior space work.

In Rue Magazine’s article “Seven Hundred and Fifty Square Feet in Stockholm”, art director Joanna Swanson makes a small apartment work for her family of three. “The thing that’s wonderful about living in a small space is that we really get to live together.”

With the trends in interior design always evolving, one overriding trend is small spaces. You don’t always have to sacrifice when living in small quarters according to Cindy Dampier in a Dallas Daily Times article, “House Beautiful Predicts Interior Design Trends for 2011″.

So whether you have space to spare or not much spare space, the design of your interior can make all the difference. It is all about working with what you are given. Below is some inspiration for how you can make small spaces work:

Fashion to Furnishings

Lilly Pulitzer for Lee Jofa

It all started from a juice stand in Palm Beach. For 50 years, Lilly Pulitzer has created brightly colored designs for fashion and accessories. Her prints and colors continue to inspire all “to lead a colorful life and live happily ever after.”

Now the cheerful designs you have come to know and love are coming into your home! Lee Jofa has unveiled a collection of Lilly Pulitzer home furnishing fabrics and trimmings. The fun line will brighten any space from the bedroom to the living room!

The fabrics are perfect for a girl’s room, a house by the beach, or anywhere you want a pop of pretty, preppy style. The vibrant colors and sunny patterns will liven up any space, making it come alive. Not only are the fabrics and wall coverings themselves lively, but the names are just as fun. “Shell We”, “Ruffle Me”, “Pulitzer’s Pride”, “Lilly Lace”, “Happy Plaid”, “Color Me Coral”, and “Hide and Seek” are just a few of the playful pattern names! Another creative touch to the fabric line is the incorporation of the word “Lilly” in the design of each pattern. If you search through each pattern, you can find “Lilly” integrated right into the print!

And get ready for even more Lilly coming into your home with HFI Furniture’s new Lilly Pulitzer Home Collection of furnishings and accessories upholstered with Lee Jofa fabrics. The pieces will range from the bedroom, to the dining and living room. The collection will be a mix of traditional shapes with classical inspiration offered in white finishes, crisp veneers, woven materials, and vibrant lacquers.

Lilly Pulitzer fabrics and furnishings are a great addition into your home for a touch of that bright Palm Beach feel. And they are the perfect balance between traditional and contemporary!

Best of all, Lilly Pulizter for Lee Jofa fabrics are available at Porter Design Company in our fabric library! Come check them out today!

Recently Completed Living Room

by Administrator on May 17, 2011

Check out our recently completed project! Our client was a little hesitant when we first proposed the wallpaper…but in the end, she put her trust in us and said “Let’s do it!”. We love, she loves it….and that’s why we love our job!

This house was recently on the Little Silver Palate Kitchen Tour held last Friday, May 13th which supports the Little Silver PTO.

Oh, deer.

by Lauren on February 26, 2010

I recently had the pleasure of working on Heather’s study in Far Hills, NJ. Not only is Heather the coolest client in the world, she also has a strong passion for good design which made working on her house a pure joy.

Next up? The master bedroom. Stay tuned for photos!

“The deer” is a brand new colorway of Mille Fleur, by Lee Jofa. We used Celerie Kemble’s Betwixt for the fabric on the throw pillows.
